WHAT ARE THE PROBLEMS WITH STANDARD LEDS?
LED lighting technology has a far higher efficiency than conventional lighting methods. However, not all LED products are the same.
The weak link in a LED lighting setup is usually the power supply. Retrofit LED kits and LED Bulbs usually encase the LED modules and power supply in plastic. This traps heat and significantly shortens the life of the LED modules and power supply. If encased inside the fixture, the driver will generally not last as long as the LED chips, and when it goes bad the whole unit must be replaced.

Solid State Lighting (SSL) refers to lighting applications that make use of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) or light-emitting polymers. While many people might consider LED lighting a new technology, Sunlite Science & Technology, Inc. has been working on it for over 18 years. Sunlite was founded in 1996 as an LED chip and wafer manufacturing company. In its early years, Sunlite used Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) technology to fabricate LED chips that were sold to assembly companies. In 2000, Sunlite won the Competitive Award from the Kansas Enterprises Technology Corporation to develop Aluminum-Indium-Gallium-Phosphide (AlInGaP) High Brightness LED (HB-LED) products using MOCVD.
It did not take long to realize that most LED chips and products on the market fell far short of reaching their full potential. Traditional chip manufacturing methods are widespread, and often each step of the process is performed by a different company. Armed with scientific expertise in LED lighting, Sunlite began manufacturing its own LED lighting products with a new, application-specific design.
In 2006, Sunlite received patents on its application specific (AS-LED) design, and it has been designing application-specific LED lighting solutions ever since. While most LED manufacturers put their chips on a Metal Core Printed Circuit Board (MC-PCB) and use plastic coverings, Sunlite manufactures its AS-LEDs with glass lenses and by placing LED chips directly onto an aluminum housing that acts as a heat sink. This design leads to unsurpassed heat dissipation and durability, and it catapults Sunlite’s LED products to the top in terms of lighting efficiency and operating lifetime.
Sunlite now manufactures UL-certified LED products that maximize current LED technology. With the freedom of innovation in multiple markets, Sunlite continues to expand its product lines and manufacturing facilities. Sunlite uses a system of vertical integration in its manufacturing process, and it controls all aspects of its LED product design and production.
