Question Hi. I have the turbo light(220 lumens). Just want to start off by saying,it's the best light I ever used. The issue I'm having is it seems to have lost some of it's intensity. It's been that way since I left it on for an hour and a half straight, by accident(left it on, under a truck I was working on). The light was very hot. When I plug it in, the intensity of the light shows no significant change. The intensity between the side switch and tail switch are normal. Could there be a resistance issue due to it being on so long at one time? The most I keep the light on is for about 15 min max. Any longer I use a drop light.
Answer Battery capacity will drop over the time, that will affect the intensity of the light.
Running it for over an hour should not be a problem with this light. If you are concerning about the resistance issue, the only thing I can think of is the contacts oxidization because of high current. You can just clean the contacts (between the housing and tailcap, and between the housing and switch unit ) with cleaning alcohol and then apply a little electrical cream to the contacts.
By the way, we sealed the switch unit to the battery housing, but not with strong seal (in case end user may want to replace the switch unit). If it is still tight, don't worry about the contact there, if the switch unit can be easily unscrewed , you can clean the contacts and seal it back on. A very small amount of wood glue from walmart will fix it in place, and wood glue is very strong. You still can unscrewed it down the road when you need to. leaving the side switch unit is not recommended, dirt can easily get in causing flicking problem to the light.
Question I did the cleaning,no change. The light is only a year and a half old. Battery fully charged is 4.2 volts. I seen on your forum that if you plug the light in and it gets brighter then it's the battery. Mine shows no change in brightness when plugged in.
Answer 4.2V does not mean the battery capacity is still full. If there is no change in the light brightness when you use charger to power, it should not be battery. So it leaves only the LED head. the intensity degradation may either come from the LED chip itself, (this is the nature of the LED) or the lens. If the LED head is continuously running at high temperature, it will speed up the degradation of both the LED chip and the lens. Also Turbo LED head is plastic TIR lens, there might be scratch or grease penetration over the time. What do you say the percentage of degradation?
Question About 15%. It's brightness is about equivalent to a 180 lumen light. Which isn't terrible, but I need the light to spot skunks under trucks at night.
Answer The degradation from the LED chip itself is around 5% every year. I guess the rest of the degradation is from the lens. If 180 lumens is not bright for your application, we can exchange the LED with a new LED head (released this year, around 280 lumens new) for $16. Do you want to exchange?
